Cross Country

Cross Country Meet

Eli is running cross country this year and is doing pretty good. He beat his time from last week of 9:47 and ran 9:39. He is working on pacing himself during the race and passing people. Here are some pictures from his last meet at St. George's.

First day of school for 2013

Our first stop was at Ella's school and the boys were doing fine

but Ella not so much, no pictures for her

next we went to Ethan's school and he had 5 minutes to get to class
so we saw the back of his backpack as he walked to class

we finally made it to Eli's school and again no pictures please

we found his table in class

helped him put on his name tag

looked at all the new friends he would have and then after a few tears
said goodbye for his first day of 1st grade

at the end of the day everyone survived (well the kids at least) and even had some smiles to share with the camera

Good News..I made CrossFitter of the month

July CrossFitter of the Month

July’s CrossFitter of the month is Barrie!  Until the last few months Barrie was only able to come in on the weekends, but since a change in her work schedule she has been in almost everyday.  Barrie has shown herself to be a hard worker, and always goes above and beyond to do the little extra things needed to be better.  It has been very rewarding watching the vast improvement she has made in the last few months.
How long have you been training here at CrossFit 509, and what brought you here?
I have been at CrossFit 509 since January 2013. My neighbor had been talking about it for awhile and motivated me to start going. I was working out on my own here and there, but not getting any real results. I love workout with groups of people, and wanted to see how I would do at lifting weights, something I had never really done before.
Since starting at CrossFit 509, what has your lifestyle been like? Have you changed anything?
Since starting CrossFit I have made a lot of changes in my daily life so that I can come more often. CrossFit  has become something I look forward to each day.  I love getting up and checking the WOD on the website to see what is planned for that day.
The biggest thing I have changed is my diet and trying to get more sleep during the week so my body has a chance to recover and get stronger.
What is your favorite movement / skill you have learned at CrossFit 509?
My favorite movements are the dead lifts and the power cleans.
What is your favorite and least favorite WOD?
My favorite WOD’s are the Saturday workouts because I like working as a team to complete all the movements.
My least favorite WODs involve rope climbs and handstand pushups since they are my weakest areas, but I am working on getting better at each time!
What has been the most challenging part of your journey?
Not being able to lift the girls weight over my head to RX at a workout. I have only done it once, but I am getting closer each week to meeting the weight requirements and hitting that goal!
What has been the most fun?
CrossFit is such a challenging and fun environment and everyone is so supportive. I look forward each day to coming and workout with everyone at CrossFit and pushing myself to be better than the group before me that day, or the best girl that day.
How many days a week do you typically train at the gym?
During the summer I have been doing 5-6 days a week.
What is your approach toward nutrition?
I definitely TRY to eat healthy, practicing a Paleo lifestyle, 80 % of the time. I can see a change in my overall fitness and recovery when I am eating clean and balancing the right amounts of proteins, carbs and healthy fats. Water is another thing I really try to add into my daily routine.
Favorite activity outside of the gym:
I love playing basketball and doing the occasional sprint triathlons, or obstacle course run for fun with friends and family.
Proudest accomplishment at CrossFit 509:
Finally getting the squat snatch and power snatch movement down and getting the overhead press movement without dropping the bar.
What is your biggest accomplishment fitness wise in / out of the gym?
Getting a kipping pull-up without a band was my biggest accomplishment in the gym.  Outside the gym was completing the Oregon Tough Mudder in June, a 10 mile run though obstacles with my husband . CrossFit has not only increased my strength and  endurance, but has given me the confidence to try new things I never thought I couldn’t do!

crazy hair moment

I had a crazy hair moment awhile back and Ella, like most days, wanted her hair like mine. Here is the picture we took....playing around with Picasa for the results.

wow, this is bright!!

California

This past week we went to California and Chris and Eli went to Lego land for his 6th birthday. They spent two full days there and saw the aquarium, the water park and all the rides that Lego land has to offer. Here are some pictures from the trip. We also went to Malibu beach and to a Dodgers game.

Chelsea's Wedding

We just got back from Harrison Hot Springs in BC attending Chris' sisters wedding. We had a great time at the resort and seeing family I haven't seen for 14 years. We saw Chris' bother also who came for the special occasion.

Ice Cream Man

The kids can ALWAYS hear the ice cream man before I do and the whole neighborhood goes crazy running for the money jars. I let Eli pick out his ice cream with Ethan and Ella, and of course he took one bite and hated it. I love his face in these pictures because it captures his distaste for cotton candy ice cream bars. SO FUNNY!!

Crazy Hair Day

Crazy hair day today at school, Elijah wanted blue hair and a Blackhawks tattoo for his hand. He is such a character.
